Poll: Ossoff Leads in GA6; Handel Tops Republicans

Mar 24, 2017 | Posted by MA Towery | Uncategorized | 3 comments |

As promised on Twitter, we polled the GA6 special election this week, including both the overall jungle primary-style horse race, as well as some head-to-head runoff questions.

Without any further ado, here are the overall toplines for the special election:

Abroms 1.6%
Bhuiyan 0.0%
Edwards 0.6%
Grawert 0.0%
Gray 10.4%
Handel 19.9%
Hernandez 0.0%
Hill 9.5%
Keatley 0.0%
Kremer 0.1%
LeVell 0.4%
Llop 0.3%
Moody 8.0%
Ossoff 39.8%
Pollard 0.4%
Quigg 0.2%
Slotin 1.3%
Wilson 1.8%
Undecided 5.8%

These results are similar to others we’ve seen in the district, and it’s clear that Democrats have rallied around Ossoff, who commands a 20-point lead over his next rival, Karen Handel. Unlike other surveys, we found that Handel is the clear choice of GOP voters, gaining support across several key demographics that will likely prove insurmountable for Republican challengers.

The runoff results are particularly interesting. Please note that these results were weighted separately from the rest of the survey to reflect the likely voter composition of these hypothetical races.

Handel vs. Ossoff:

Handel 41.0%
Ossoff 42.4%
Undecided 16.6%

Gray vs. Ossoff:

Gray 42.3%
Ossoff 44.3%
Undecided 13.4%

Hill vs. Ossoff:

Hill 44.6%
Ossoff 44.2%
Undecided 11.2%

Moody vs. Ossoff:

Moody 43.5%
Ossoff 45.8%
Undecided 10.7%

These results should be very encouraging for the Ossoff campaign, especially given the older, more conservative demographic profile of runoff voters. That said, all of the runoff figures fall within the margin of error, and with double-digit undecided numbers, the hypothetical races are certainly up for grabs.

Elsewhere, we decided to test both Trump’s approval rating, as well as that of the AHCA within the district:

Trump approval:

Total approve 53%
Total disapprove 46%
Unsure 2%

AHCA approval:

Total approve 47%
Total disapprove 50%
Unsure 3%

Neither Trump nor Trumpcare are especially popular in this Republican-leaning district, but the latter is especially disliked. Expect these numbers to influence the race further in the weeks to come.

Thank you for this. Handel is a TERRIBLE candidate. Ideological to the max and looking for a long time career. She will run for dogcatcher if it were open. We don’t need this here!
